I recently put together a simple scene featuring some lovely pastries. I used my Sony A7RV camera with a Sigma 24mm-70mm lens to capture these treats. After taking the photos, I edited them in Lightroom and aligned them in Metashape.
To create the 3D models of the pastries, I used ZBrush for retopology and Blender for some topology adjustments. I also worked on creating a UV map for texture application. For texturing, I relied on Substance Designer and used Substance Painter for custom masking, especially for parts of the pastries with varying roughness, like the Pain Au Raisin. The polycount was maintained rather high at roughly 25/30K per mesh using a combination of ZBrushes Remesher and Decimation Master. This was so I could show off as much detail as possible from the scans.
I brought everything together in Unreal Engine 5 and used its Path Tracer for realistic lighting. Admittedly, this was my first time using Path Tracer, and my PC struggled a bit to render the frames quickly enough for both videos and stills. But in the end, I was pleasantly surprised by the result!
I used some Megascan assets for some scene dressing, but otherwise everything from the Paistries to the Orange and Apples where of my own creation.
